Community art piece done for the City of South Perth in collaboration with South Perth Learning Centre (SPLC) for the 2018 WALGA Banner's in the Terrace.
I held a workshop with SPLC members to brainstorm the year's theme of "Ready and Relevant" and how this connects to the identity of South Perth. I then created a design that communicated the results of that workshop visually.
The composition features the shapes of the sails from the iconic windmill in South Perth (also the logo of SPLC) and creates and alternation between urban development and conservation projects - all of which (and the balance between these) was decided is what makes South Perth unique and ready for the future and relevant to the current issues of today.
From there I held two painting workshops with SPLC members, where the could come and learn basic painting skills, and help bring the banner to fruition. The banner will be on display in St George’s Terrace, Perth for a week at the end of July.
