‘Spring City’

City of Melville Kidchella Festival, Attadale WA
- November 2019

A collaborative installation activity between Mikaela Miller, and Carrissa Wu of Jotterbook Flowers.

What happens when play and nature meet the built environment? For the City of Melville’s 2019 Kidchella festival, we decided to find out.

Spring City combined paper florals with painted florals in an ephemeral, evolving world of construction and wonder. Participants were invited to decorate an array of large boxes (often larger than the miniature architects themselves) using paint, paper and imagination. These masterpieces were then stacked, packed, lifted, dragged and rolled into a colourful and dynamic landscape where creativity really did lie outside the box.
